We are searching for a talented and professional Junior director of photography (DP) / editor to join our dynamic team. Your duties will be diverse and multi-faceted, therefore excellent professional skills are vital for this role.

The successful candidate will help create educational content to populate the company’s website in line with our vision and mission to educate our youth on important values.

The DP will be mainly responsible for shooting held at the studio, though it can happen that some sequences and modules are shoot outside of the studio, outdoor or indoor.

The DP controls everything that affects what the camera is able to capture (i.e. composition, exposure, lighting, filters, and camera movements). The director of photography is the head of the camera and lighting crews on set, and also selects the cameras, lenses, and filters to be used on a shoot. The DP should also be able to use and monitor drones and under water shootings when needed.

What Does a Director of Photography Do During Pre-Production?

  • During pre-production the DP spends a lot of time conceiving the visual look and concept of the videos.
  • Brainstorm: The DP works closely with the director, academic coordinator and instructors to brainstorm on the look and feel of the videos and increase quality and retention rate.
  • Research: Additional footage that could be used in the production as examples, case studies and experiments.
    Plan: Plan production schedule, cast and props for production along with the academic coordinator

What Does a Director of Photography Do During production?

  • The DP will also act as a camera operator and gaffer during production ensuring all settings and lightings are optimum for live keying. Once set up is done, the DP will handle switching between the different cameras, applying lower thirds and other kind of animations to minimise post production tasks.

What Does a Director of Photography/editor Do During post-production?

  • The DP/ editor will ensure that the video outputted are clean of any bugs, blank spaces, add logo opener and closer before working n colour grading. Finally he will upload and publish the content on our platform.

What are the skills required?

  • Artistic vision and eye for photography. The DP sets the visuals for the film and as such, should have a natural eye for capturing moving images.
  • Ability to both give and follow instructions. The DP has to understand the director’s vision and then communicate that message to many people across the production.
  • Technical camera skills. The DP must know how to operate a camera, what different cameras do, how to use many lenses, how to expose a shot, etc.
  • Organisational skills. The DP should be able to organise a vast library of content and brief other stakeholders (Instructors, academic coordinator) on how to better structure and optimise their course materials to better fit our production framework.
